On January 10, 2023, the Shenzhen National Clinical Research Center for Infectious Diseases/Shenzhen Third People’s Hospital (hereinafter referred to as “Shenzhen National Research Center”) and Shenyang Hongqi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Shenyang Hongqi Pharmaceutical”) jointly held a grand unveiling ceremony and a strategic cooperation meeting at Shenyang Hongqi Pharmaceutical, marking the official launch of the Shenzhen National Research Center’s “Innovative Drug R&D Base.”

To further refine tuberculosis prevention and control strategies and measures, better implement the “14th Five-Year Plan” for tuberculosis prevention and treatment, and align with the 2022 World Health Organization campaign theme—“Invest to End TB. Save Lives”—while accelerating the implementation of an innovation-driven development strategy, the Shenzhen National Research Center has established a strategic partnership with Shenyang Hongqi Pharmaceutical.
The Shenzhen National Research Center was designated in 2019 as a national-level medical research center by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Health Commission, the Logistics Support Department of the Central Military Commission, and the National Medical Products Administration. The Center enjoys a highly esteemed position in the field of infectious diseases, particularly in the prevention and control of tuberculosis. Shenyang Hongqi Pharmaceutical is China’s largest production base for anti-tuberculosis drugs, offering a full range of first-line agents and the vast majority of second-line formulations, backed by robust manufacturing and R&D capabilities. This strategic collaboration further leverages the dual engines of clinical innovation and industrial enterprise, fostering the integration of the innovation and industrial value chains. Through collaborative innovation, resource sharing, scientific cooperation, and mutually beneficial development, the partnership aligns with the strategic needs of tuberculosis control, pooling resources to drive pioneering medical breakthroughs.
The principal leaders and experts in attendance included Professor Lu Shuihua, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen National Research Center and Director of the Department of Pulmonary Diseases at Shenzhen Third People’s Hospital; Mr. Wang Yanpei, Director of the Office of the Shenzhen National Research Center; Mr. Yang Bo, Chairman of Shenyang Hongqi Pharmaceutical; Mr. Li Shaowei, Deputy General Manager of the PHS Business Unit; as well as more than 40 senior executives and employees of Shenyang Hongqi Pharmaceutical, who all participated in the unveiling ceremony.
Yang Bodong extended a warm welcome to Professor Lu Shuihua and Director Wang Yanpei, and briefed those present on the strategic collaboration between the National Research Center and Shenyang Hongqi Pharmaceutical. In particular, the official launch of the innovative drug R&D base will significantly advance Hongqi’s efforts in innovative drug research and development. He expressed hope that, with the support of the National Research Center, Hongqi will continue to deliver high‑quality products and services across the entire tuberculosis care continuum—prevention, diagnosis, treatment, management, and education.
Professor Lu Shuihua expressed his gratitude for the dedication of all employees at Shenyang Hongqi Pharmaceutical, extended his congratulations on the establishment of the “Innovative Drug R&D Base” at the Shenzhen National Research Center, and affirmed the company’s prospects for future innovation. He also offered a preliminary outlook on the project’s development direction, expressing his hope that, through collaboration with Shenyang Hongqi Pharmaceutical, breakthroughs in innovation can be achieved, thereby providing new tools for the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis.

During the conference, both parties engaged in an in-depth discussion on innovative approaches to the full‑course management of tuberculosis—covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment, management, and education. They provided detailed presentations on the National Research Center’s strategic plans and development, Shenyang Hongqi Pharmaceutical’s strategic initiatives, and new drug‑development projects in the field of tuberculosis prevention, thereby deepening mutual understanding and reinforcing confidence in collaboration. Participants from both sides conducted thorough exchanges from multiple perspectives, including R&D breakthroughs, safety, and cost‑effectiveness, and jointly outlined future prospects for the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis. These efforts aim to effectively foster an innovative ecosystem for tuberculosis, accelerate the high‑quality translation and advancement of novel therapeutics, and continuously strengthen capacity building and quality improvement in tuberculosis drug research and development.

Both parties firmly believe that, with the joint efforts of the Shenzhen National Clinical Research Center for Infectious Diseases and Shenyang Hongqi Pharmaceutical, the “Innovative Drug R&D Base” will be able to develop more cutting-edge products for tuberculosis prevention and treatment, forge a new future for the tuberculosis‑related health industry, and contribute Chinese initiatives to the global goal of ending the tuberculosis epidemic.
